From Rattles to Writing
Your eighteen- to twenty-four-month-old child will develop the balance
and body awareness to engage in more challenging sensorimotor activities
that will stimulate her brain. Running up and down hills, jumping off a low
step, and even squatting to pick up a toy will help your child to adjust her
body in response to the force of gravity and changes in speed. Her expanding
repertoire of motor skills will also promote new tactile experiences, such as
running barefoot on grass and creating “mountains” out of wet sand
