Squatting is a great exercise to help build strength in the legs, hip mobility, endurance, balance and muscle tone. In addition, the up and down movement stimulates the vestibular sensory system which may help with sensory regulation.
If you do not have a horse available, encourage your little one to engage in squat to stand by reaching for objects located on the floor and placing on a higher surface. Or reverse this by reaching to a high surface to retrieve objects to place on the floor…. Try this while the child stands on a dynamic surface such as a rocker board, trampoline, platform swing or while balancing on a large log or balance beam.
