I bought the cushion shown in the video after reading 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back by Esther Gokhale. The main theme of this book is that Western people engage in faulty positioning that causes back pain and of course, we sit way too much. I am actually sitting on a wobbly stool as I type and am seldom in front of a desktop. I am usually moving or relaxing in a lounger chair with no pressures on my spine….
I actually think about this book and the following pictures while driving…
and I drive very few miles since retiring… Lucky me because sitting, especially while driving increases my back pain…I used to drive with my seat further away from the steering wheel with rounded shoulders. That is a big NO No…
The doctor at the pain clinic told me that my rhomboid muscles were tight. This poor positioning may certainly have contributed to the muscle knots and trigger points that I have been complaining about over the past 5 years!
As the author explains, car seats and office chairs promote lumbar curvature.
This is not good, especially if you already struggle with low muscle tone, weak core and poor posture…
… and finally, lengthen that neck and do a few shoulder rolls before you get rolling…
A strategically placed rolled up towel or blanket might be adequate. Any changes to postural habits are going to be difficult, but just like when eating a healthy diet- one get’s used to it and it eventually feels natural…
You might notice the cool steering wheel cover in the video. I LOVE rubbing my palms on it… Before buying it, I attached Velcro to the steering wheel.
Friendly reminder: Wobble chairs or ball seats enable movement when sitting in front a computer…
Movement decreases stress and pain…
