Is anyone else bothered with the media portraying President Carter’s daughter Amy as “shy” as though that were defective? and why did the journalist call her gait “awkward”… I simply see a little girl being followed by a big secret service guy doing what is expected-walking to school with a big strange guy following her around everywhere.

There is nothing superior about being an extrovert, chatty, popular and a schmoozer

who knows how to get ahead by exploiting their excellent communication skills. There is nothing wrong with using your skills to get ahead, but I resent the attitude toward those of us who are introspective, quieter, slower to process sensory information and prefer developing a few close friendships than hanging out with a chatty crowd. I’m sure that many of my occupational therapy clients would fall into this latter description. They may indeed have speech and language, auditory or sensory processing challenging that should be addressed, but being quiet is not a disability.

There is nothing wrong with being a “private person” especially in this age of Instagram ….

Bravo, President Carter for sending his daughter to a public school during their time in Washington…. and there is nothing wrong with being a “private person”, especially during this time of Instagram encouraging young girls to tweak and compare their looks…
