I attend a book club at my town’s Council of Aging. I had never been interested in the arts and crafts activities because they seemed to simple for me. But someone offered to give a class on making a bookmark to us book lovers…. It reminded me of when we made task analyses in graduate school!
Here are the supplies:
Steps to sequence:
- Select which stickers I wanted. There was a very nice selection of very pretty stickers. I also decided to put a sticker on each side of the plastic. This craft may help some clients who struggle with making choices…
- Peel the clear plastic off the hard plastic. This required very good eye-hand coordination and not a good task for people easily frustrated.
- Peel the plastic off the stickers. This was even more challenging and a bit tricky. But I persevered. One sticker ripped a bit, but the end product was still nice. This is not a great task for a perfectionist. Fortunately, I am the opposite of a perfectionist…
- Lastly, place the sticker, preferably centered. Again, fortunately, I am not a perfectionist but can see how the sticker being not centered might bother people with mental illness. I am not one of them…
- The tassel is attached through that hole at the top of the hard plastic. Attaching it required a bit of motor planning….
It was interesting to hear…
other people making comments such as “I am not artistic at all”, “I haven’t done a craft in years” and ” wow, this is tricky”… and “how will I get that tassel on”. So this activity required a bit of problem solving – which might be exactly what your client needs…..
By the way,
the bookmark works great. It’s not too thick. The book is The Intruder by Freida McFadden….
