Soft, Pliable and Easy to Cut Container Lids
from coffee, nuts, raisins and other containers. These are soft, pliable, abundant and very easy to cut.
Some dishwasher soap and detergent bottles are also pliable and easy to cut- but not easy as the lids. Above is a photo of a client removing the rings from cord. There is a large squeaky object attached to the end, inside his right hand. It is so large that he has to use force to pull the ring off. He has an Intellectual and Developmental Disability and is motivated by both the squeak of the toy and using force to perform the task. Using force provides proprioceptive sensory stimulation.
Rigid, Less Pliable and Not As Easy to Cut Lids
are best used when the product needs to withstand being manipulated.
The bunnies head and ears were cut out of a detergent bottle. But the yogurt lid that it is attached to is made of a thinner plastic.
The simulated belt buckle that I made to practice the under and over motions used for buckling is shown above. This should be made out of a very sturdy plastic bottle and if it isn/t sturdy enough – it can actually rip.
Here are a few more photos of rings made by cutting up plastic bottles or lids.
The following “Velcro Bottle” is made out of a very sturdy detergent bottle . I attached the shapes to the big blue bottle using Velcro. There are slots cut on the sides so that the shapes may be inserted by pushing them through the slots. Clients also motor planned to unscrew or screw the cap back as needed. I love the storage system!
