As an occupational therapist, I know how important my mental health is and skating gets my happy hormones… well happy! Hubby and I live with a 35 year old son on the autism spectrum with mental health challenges that create daily stress. Happy movement is one of my strategies. I also attend a weekly dance class at the Council on Aging, swim 3 days a week and do PT weight lifting exercises using dumbells and Theraband…. Regardless of mental health challenges, I love the vestibular and proprioceptive (ie heavy skates) sensory input as I work on balance, flexibility and much more….
